Interview: Makeup artist Igor Semushin (Russia)
Can you tell us a little about you?
Hello! I am Igor Semushin, I live in Moscow. I have been living in Israel for many years.
How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start and how do you get your inspiration from?
Well, I was 39 when I started as makeup artist. Before that I used to have many different jobs. My backgroung is musician and for a long time I played music for Moscow theatre orchestra. I was interested in photography and design. I am makeup artist for more than 10 years, and 8 years out of that I am teaching people. Two years ago I started the makeup school named Igor Semushin Make-up Masters School in Moscow and now I own it. I love creative approach in make-up and body art. I believe that one can express their mind, emotion, philosophy though them and make people to think and show their emotions and imagination. Mostly, I take pictures of my projects myself. I get inspired by woman beauty, emotions and people’s mental (internal) world. Sometimes looks or fashions come to my mind and I cannot help but have it realized.
What are some of your makeup products that you use?
I use professional brands such as Inglot, Make-up Atelier, Wycon, Avant-scene, Bellapierre, ProMakeupLAB, LAGirl, Graftobian and others in my projects.
Who have you worked for and who would you like to work for in the future?
I have been working a lot for Russian movie industry that gave opportunity to meet and work with many good Russian actors. But, I suppose, every one wants to have attractive look, it doesn’t matter if they are celebrity or manager of a company. I wish I worked for fashion weeks in Milano, Paris or New York, or my projects were posted on Vogue’s cover.
Any makeup tips you'd like to share with us?
My tip is simple: woman have to love herself as she is, and just accentuate her individuality. Let others loves us as we love ourselves.
If you were not a makeup artist, what would be your dream job?
If I would not become makeup artist I would return to photography. I like to take pictures.
What are three things every girl needs in her makeup bag?
I believe girls need a lovely lipstick and mascara in her makeup bag and a little mirror to admire herself.
What are common mistakes you see women make on their makeup?
I don’t want to talk about mistakes. But I really like when women can emphasize her individuality by makeup and hide some blemishes.
