Interview: Model Lia Volantis (Germany)

Can you tell us a little about you?

Hey, my name is Sophie, I’m 28 years old and I live in Germany. I’m a Social Worker and modeling is one of my biggest hobbies. Since 2 years I also started to create and design my own costumes which is a lot of fun, too. I love being creative and to see the results at the end in a picture.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

Well, of course I wish I would be more disciplined. But what can I do: I love Sweet Corn, I love ice cream and you only live once ;)

How did you start modeling?

I started 8 years ago, more or less. I would not call myself a real model. It’s just a hobby to have fun, to meet new people and to be creative.

A friend of mine used to have a nice camera and she wanted to test some things so I modeled for her. She showed her pictures on a platform in the internet and told me that people liked my pictures. So I also created my own Setcard and started to have a lot of photoshootings.

What do you think of the work as a model?

If you really work as a model, I think it’s a great opportunity to travel, to meet new people but also it is a pretty tough job. You always have to look pretty. I have also always been thinking that this part is the easy one but it’s not. It means a lot of concentration, a lot of tolerance depending on the photographer and so on. This is why modeling is only my hobby, as a job it would freak me out.

What is your beauty regimen?

I’m sorry, I don’t have any... I think it’s a lot about being positive which gives you good attitude and charisma.

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

I’m very open minded, people talk to me about EVERYTHING. I’m easy going and give everything for the best picture. Also, I think creating my own costumes and having some MakeUp skills help ;) Being a little crazy is the secret.

What are your plans for the future?

To create more costumes.

Also, I want to plan something with my Mum. She’s also a great artist and somehow we will try to combine our art which is going to be very interesting cause she is doing pottery...

What are some of your favorite experiences so far?

Well, I think the best part is the variety of people you meet. In the beginning you literally enter a foreign car and trust that person you’ve never met before. That was pretty scary. But you realize that this whole model scene is an own communtiy. We’re all creative and a little crazy so the best part is to see that you’re not alone :D

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?

I think it’s important to try to be different and show something not every second other model also shows. So try to figure out your strenghts and focus on them.

Everyone is special and you should not define yourself by sizes or or any beauty idols. Find your own style and beauty standards.

What do you think of the magazine?

I think it’s a great opportunity for artists to show their work.
