Interview: Photographer Serge SIMEONI alias FooXy (France)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I am french 57 years old , photograhy is my passion since 40 years , I live in the south of France since a few years , I was before in Paris and Belgium .

How and when did you get into photography?

I had my first camera when I was 18 it was an Olympus OM2 , I work at this time in argentic films and I learned development and all the process of treatment . The first years I was doing portraits , street photography , landscapes ...

What does photography mean to you?

Photography is for me a way a creation , it's also a way to see people and to make an interacton with them . The research of esthetism and harmony in photograhy is essential .

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I think I don't have a specific style , I love graphics pics and good lights in my photography I like to try to do something different each time I shoot ..., it's difficult ;-)

Where do you get inspiration from?

My inspiration is mainly provided by famous phographers that I like : Helmut Newton, Jean loup Sieff and many more..

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

Yes I try but sometimes I am surprised...and sometimes it's good a surprise I think that during a shooting you must have an idea for starting , after it's a question of feeling !

Studio, on location or both?

Both, I have a studio at my home , but I like also on location there is more possibilities .

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I am a pure Hobbyist , for me professionnal means that you live with Photography .

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Nikon D 800 and my 24/70 f2.8

What has been your most memorable session and why?

I think it was in a suburb near Paris , we try to make a fashion shooting in the middle of a difficult quarter ... and we see 30 persons arriving around us , it was hot ! The shooting was very quick !!

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

I would say try to make"your" phography when you shoot not in post production ...

What do you think of our new magazine?

Well ,its a good idea , it's a high quality magazine and a lot of models and phographers will love it !!
