Interview: Photographer Anna Garbowska (New York, USA)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I was born in Poland. Currently living ni NYC. I'm a mom, wife and a photographer.

How and when did you get into photography? My photography journey started a few years ago. I always had a passion for photography. I got my first camera from my husband, as a gift for my birthday. Probably he didn't know that very soon I will need a lot a lot more gear ( laugh).

What does photography mean to you?

Everything! I can't live without it! Sometimes when don't have a camera in my hands for a few days I become miserable... Photographing people makes me really happy and satisfied.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

Thats a hard question... I always liked dark and moody portraits, with lots of contrasts and emotions. But it doesn't mean that sometimes I want to do something bright and fresh. Behind portraits I love photographing couples. Its a nice felling when I can see love, compassion between two people. I know for sure that I like my photos to look natural as possible. Less is more!

Where do you get inspiration from? I see inspiration everywhere. In people and surroundings.

Think you in advance what you want in the picture?

Depends. Sometimes I have planned everything but sometimes I just go with a flow (laugh).

Studio, on location or both?

On location.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

Both! This is my dream job!

What has been your most memorable session and why?

Editorial Night at Monaliza Studios in Brooklyn. I meet lots of artists, beautiful people with passion for photography. My photo of Felix Cadieu was chosen as the best photo of the night.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Im using a Nikon gear. Favorite lens - 85mm. About 70% of my photos are taken with that lens.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Just follow your dreams and do what you really love. The best way to learn photography is practice.
