Interview: Photographer Lasse Lagoni (Denmark)

Can you tell us a little about you?
I’m Lasse Lagoni, a 37 year old full time photographer from Kolding in Denmark. I mainly shoot corporate, sports, concerts and models.
How and when did you get into photography?
I bought my first DSLR camera in 2008 (a Canon EOS 450D) and started shooting for fun. It quickly turned into a couple of weddings, some nightlife photography and random portraits and in 2012 I decided to go all-in and started my own full time photography business.
What does photography mean to you?
It means everything. It’s my job, my identity, my hobby and my passion. Combined.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
When I shoot models, it’s mainly boudoir or glamour. And a bit of fashion as well.
Where do you get inspiration from?
For the model photography I think it all started with the work of Mike “Ohrangu” Tang. His style is phenomenal. These days it’s just a lot of very skilled photographers and models on Instagram that inspires me.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
It actually depends on the situation and location. Sometimes it just comes to me as we go and other times I plan every scenario carefully.
Studio, on location or both?
Both. I love my studio and I love working at awesome locations (both indoors and outdoors)
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
A paid professional given the fact that photography has been my bread and butter for almost seven years.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
There’s a lot of memorable shoots. One time a model shoot at a Swinger Club during opening hours. That took a lot of getting used to. And another one at Roskilde Festival where me and a model walked around all over the entire festival area shooting pictures of her in underwear.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
I’ve been a Canon shooter since that first DSLR. My favorite lens must be my Canon 50mm 1.2L. It’s just so ridiculously nice and complicated at the same time.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
Be prepared to put in the hard work it takes to succeed. It won’t come over night. It takes perseverance. But it’s also a lot of fun.
