Interview: Photographer Draven Artworks (Italy)
Can you tell us a little about you?
Hello there, thanks a lot for inviting me to this interview. By name is ramon (aka Draven) and I live in the middle italy near Rome. I'm 33 and i started taking pictures less than 10 years ago.
How and when did you get into photography? I was about 24 and i played in a rock band in those years. Maybe I was as far as possible from photography. Everything started for curiosity, When a friend of mine showed me how he used to work with photoshop to manipulate images. So I tried to replicate what he used to do with casual images. Some times later I decided to shoot my own photos and I discovered that shooting pictures was so natural for me.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography is a sort of escape from reality and often a way to explore deep in myself. Most of the times a portrait is an uncoscious vision and expression of yourself first that a rappresentation of other peaple.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
My first Photography teacher was Paolo Del Frate: a master in nude photography so I couldn't be so different from him. But i go from erotic to fashion. Portraiture is a so long way
Where do you get inspiration from? I watch a lot of images from photographers from all over the world on instagram and I think this inspire me the most. But I also listen a lot of music and read a lot of books so all these things bring me a sort of visions that i try to put in a potograph
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture ?
Yes, I like to replicate visions and moods that I have in my mind.
Studio, on location or both?
Most of the time I prefer locations. Outdoor locations. Sometimes I shoot in studio too but for me is a little limitating
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Everything started as an hobby, something I did for myself but along the years i found some commitments too.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
It was 4 o 5 years ago, suddenly i've been called for a last minute shooting from a young stylist in Rome named Martina who had the opportunity to partecipate at the fashion week in London. It has been my very first high fashion photoset. Location, models and clothes, everything was amazing. Then when martina turned back at home, told me that she had an interview and some of those photos had been selected to be on Vogue UK. I was speechless.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Everything started from Nikon and ever will end with nikon! But I can't deny that I'd like to try a mirrorless sony. My favourite lens is 85mm and my dream is the 135mm f2 DC!
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
I don't think to have some advices. Everyone starts photography for a reason. In my life, I used to say that I never would have been a photographer but here I am. So...always challenge yourself!
