Interview: Model Sonia Ziobro (Poland)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I'm Sonia Ziobro, model from Poland, fourth year psychology student in University of Gdańsk. My specialisations are: clinic psychology and multicultural psychology. In my free time I really like drawing, painting, riding horses, traveling and helping others. I danced ballet, I love art, animals, books, coffe, Disney movies, nature.

I believe that people are good, kind and awesome, we all have some stories hidden inside, we are all broken somehow, but this it how light gets in. I think that as a human beeings we are stornger than we think.

My grandmother Mariola has seen almost the whole world so she encouraged me to explore and never stop smiling. She was an incredible, inspirational, brilliant, fantastic, courage, woman. My other grandmother Bola once said, that to have happy life you nedd to let go things that you can not control and all you need is comfortable bed and shoes. Now she is 88 and she jumped with a parachute! She appreciates the world and shines with goodness and joy. I'm a lucky person to be sourounded by all those beautiful, smart women in my life: my Mama, my Grandmothres, my Friends. I feel rich because of connection that I have with them.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

Nothing at all :) I appreciate imperfections and I try to look at myself and others through wasabi - I want to appreciate life as it is, its complexity and beauty hidden in what is imperfect. We are all hand-made atrworks - our cracks and scars deserve gold so that everyone can admire them with us. We are not beautiful despite our imperfections, but thanks to them.

How did you start modeling?

Because of my best friend (and now the amazing photographer) Kaja Wasylkiewicz. We were coming up with new ideas on school lessons. Kaja is a real artist and she can do everything -from make-up to designing clothes and even sewing the projests. So this is the short story how it all started- with my best friend- my sister and our shared passion.

What do you think of the work as a model?

I am a model for 5 years now and I love it, because photos are captured moments of present.

It gives me opportunity to see new places, to meet interesting people, to play charakters. Modeling is a very intriguing job, because you can be someone else in front of the camera. You can create a story in your mind, and develop your creativity.

It is also very easy to see how each photographer differently perceive and look at the world and the people, which is fascinating.

What is your beauty regimen?

I am taking care of my mind and body. I'll help myself with the quote: "To have attractive lips, speak words of kindness. To have beautiful eyes, look at what people have beautiful in them. To be thin, share your food with the hungry. (…) if one day you need a helping hand, you will find a at the end of each of your arms. As you get older, you will realize that you have two hands, one for you help yourself, the other to help those in need. The Beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, her face or her way to fix her hair. The Beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the door open on her heart, the source of her love. The Beauty of a woman is not in her makeup, but in the real beauty of her soul. It's the tenderness that she gives, the love, the passion that she expresses.”And I could not describe it better. You know what's really fun and in style? Making others feel loved and valued.

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

I think that I am positive and energetic person, I never loose hope and I believe that kindness is beauty. I am also happy with small things and I have this ability to appreciate world since I remember. I can be excited by nice rock, cloud, flower, my boyfriend colour of eyes, my friend smile, song that I have good memories with, cookie, my Dad's voice or message from my Mama. Thanks to that I'm happy every single day and that is my super power (also: I can sleep everywhere: preferably on trains and planes).

What are your plans for the future?

I am studing psychology, but after college I want to go to the school of psychotherapy. I always wanted to work with people and help them somehow, so I'm very happy with the choice I made. I am also thinking about going on a one-year trip.

My plan for the future is simple: enjoy every single day, be self aware, never lose delight and make all my dreams come true.

What are some of your favorite experiences so far?

Related to modeling: bathing in the cold sea or stream or lake when it rains, lying in the snow in summer dresses, an attempt to make friends with a donkey and a llama, getting up at 4-5 am to catch the sunrise, photo session with Mama, pretending to be an elf or princess, posing on a suspicious boat that looked like it was going to sink, but most of all meeting fantastic people.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?

It's all about not losing your passion and willingness to work. Do not make yourself believe that you're not good enough. The only person who can say you don’t fit in - is you. So don’t listen to people who criticize you and have nothing nice to say. If that's your dream, go for it, try. And please remember: You are enough, always.

What do you think of the magazine?

Modellenland Magazine is very diverse, shows the work of incredibly talented people. You can see that the magazine is celebrating art, beauty and creativity. It is professional and gives me a lot of inspiration.
