Interview: Make-up Artist Serguei Chatel (France)

Can you tell us a little about you?

Hello, my name is Serguei, I am a French makeup artist. I was born in Russia and I came to France at the age of 22 with a big dream of becoming a makeup artist and working with photographers, models, stars, magazines, sharing my positive energy and saving this world by spreading the beauty

How long have you been a makeup artist and how did you get your start?

I started learning the art of makeup as a teenager and a student. But it was when I arrived in France that I really discovered this profession. When I started to work for Lancôme in 2008 I was really started to spread myself as a makeup professional.

Where do you get your inspiration from? My first muse was my cousin Anna. She dreamed of becoming a model and together we watched the fashion shows on Fashion Tv, leafed through fashion magazines and dreamed, dreamed, dreamed ...

One day I opened a book about the great make-up artist Kevyn Aucoin, I saw his work, his way of sublimating women and I said to myself "That's what I want ». He is my spiritual mentor.

What are some of your makeup products that you use?

My essentials are the L'Or base Essence d'éclat by Guerlain, Strobe Cream by M.A.C, Idole Ultra Wear foundation by Lancôme, Mascara Grandiôse Extrême by Lancôme and translucent loose powder by Laura Mercier. These are safe values.

Who have you worked for and who would you like to work for in the future?

I started at Sephora and had the honor of working for Guerlain, La Mer, Lancôme ... I would have loved to do a stint in the editorial staff of big fashion magazine for 2 or 3 years…

But my ultimate dream is to one day create my own brand of cosmetics and share it with the whole world.

Any makeup tips you'd like to share with us?

The most important thing is to take care of your skin. We chose a treatment and we chose the foundation adapted to our skin type. We don't put on makeup, we sublimate the original beauty! Then it's balance. If you want successful makeup, you only put the accent on one area of the face: eyes or lips. We seduce or we hypnotize!

If you were not a makeup artist, what would be your dream job?

I studied journalism and it was my very first passion! I love to write!

What are three things every girl needs in her makeup bag?

A mascara, a lip balm and a love note scribbled on a piece of paper! It gives a smile that makes every woman radiant with natural beauty.

What are common mistakes you see women make on their makeup?

The balance. Often they do either too much or really a minimum ...

What do you think of the magazine?

Modellenland is a smart, modern and open-minded magazine. It's fresh! I am delighted to have collaborated with!
