Interview: Model Eleonora Savorelli (Italy)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I am living my best life in the art field! At the moment, I’m studying to become an art curator. Moreover, I’m currently working at the contemporary art gallery C + N Canepaneri as social media manager. I’m collaborating with Wallector, an online platform that sells contemporary artworks based in Rome, and with Superstudiolo, an art gallery in Bergamo, which deals with contemporary painting.

I’m so fascinated (and intimidated) by contemporaneity: in the visual arts field, I see so many thrilling projects and approaches that are aimed at explaining, revealing, reflecting on, and challenging what is going on around us. I cherish the passion and the care that artist put in their researches, and I’d love, in the future, to help them shape and deliver their visions as a true curator.

I’m based in Milan, where I work and study at NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti), in which I attend the course of Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies. In the past, I spent several months in Turin, for a couple internships; and three years in Rome, where I graduated from the John CabotUniversity. I also spent a semester in Athens, that was a very fulfilling experience.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

I would aggressively erase my need to rush. Also, I would love to stop worrying so much.

How did you start modelling?

For the most part, I was curious. I asked myself, “Would I be able to pose or to do a photoshoot? How would I feel in that situation? What would I discover about myself through that medium?” The perfect opportunity to give an answer to these questions came to me at the beginning of 2019, when I was living in Turin. There, I discovered that it was possible to shoot in “TF”, which was something unknown to me, and I gave it a try!

At first, I felt a bit weird and out of place, but shooting after shooting I discovered the great fun (and satisfaction) that comes from creating images that show sides of me that I rarely display, or that I didn’t even know to have. Moreover, I was lucky enough to start this path with talented and professional photographers, which greatly helped.

What do you think of the work as a model?

Mine is not an actual work, it is more a hobby. I feel “safer” in this way, since I’m not forced to do anything that I don’t want to do. Moreover, I can explore moods and styles at my own pace. Anyhow, I think that models have a great responsibility: they have visibility, and they should use well this opportunity, delivering messages of strength, empowerment, and body-positivity.

What is your beauty regimen?

I always use body lotions; I need to feel my skin smooth. Since I don’t put on so much make up and not even that frequently, I don’t have particular advises about it. Lastly, I make sure to walk a lot, and to be active.

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

I’m resilient and goal-oriented, I’m enthusiastic in what I do, that being curatorial projects or photoshoots. I always want to give my very best, which makes me a bit anxious, but I guess that’s part of the game.

What are your plans for the future?

As I mentioned before, I am studying hard to become a curator: as my main path, I’m delivering to it the majority of my strengths and attention. I would also like to continue my job at the Milanese art gallery. At the same time, I’m open to new possibilities and collaborations: for instance, I’m very interested to know more about publishing houses, and photography (that kind of photography that sees me behind the camera!).

Additionally, I would like to carry on my modeling hobby: I usually get inspired by photoshoots and images I see around, thus I always have projects and ideas that I want to develop. It would be amazing to become more and more expressive and good at posing, in order to make all my ideas possible and achievable.

What are some of your favorite experiences so far?

Some of my best experiences are recorded in the photos you’ll see in these pages. I’m so incredibly pleased with the portraits made by Anna Santovito, I think they are among the best I have. Shooting with her was such a nice experience! Also, the photoshoot with Francesco Scaccianoce at Arco della Pace in Milan was one of my favorites. Despite the cold weather and the quizzical gazes of the passers-by, it was very fun to pose elegantly in the wintery atmosphere, apparently Parco Sempione can be magical at 7.00 am, and I’m so happy about the results! Last but not least, I am always very pleased to shoot with Carl Stacey, this might seem a general statement, but I truly enjoy each of our photoshoots! In his photos I always see myself more elegant and graceful, better in general.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modelling?

Try try try! The ones of modeling and photoshoots might seem distant, shiny, and artificial worlds, but they are actually made of connections, fun, and self-discovery. Make sure to explore styles and genres to understand what you prefer to do, and in which guise you feel more at ease (and more stylish!). But most importantly, do only what feel right to you. Lastly, something valuable that I learnt is to not feel “not enough” or “not appropriate” if a photographer, whose style you particularly enjoy, doesn’t accept to shoot with you for any reason, move on, search more, and find better opportunities.

What do you think of the magazine?

It is a very good platform for sharing, and a fantastic place to get inspired! I love that many different kinds of photos are published: B&W, models at the seaside, in the streets, at the countryside, fashion shoots, lingerie shoots, fantasy-like or steampunk outfits and accessories, and much more. There is something interesting for everyone, that makes an inclusive and vibrant environment, which is, in my opinion, what photography is all about.
