Interview: Photographer Carsten Wosab (Germany)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I’m 55, photographer from Düsseldorf in Germany

How and when did you get into photography?

It’s now 15 years ago. My wife, who was also a photographer invited me to help her during her photo shootings. I liked it and tried for myself

What does photography mean to you?

It’s an inspiration of getting creative. It’s also great to get new contacts and friends

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I’m mainly doing fashion and portrait photography with female models. Mostly on outdoor locations, like abounded places and castles etc.

Where do you get inspiration from?

I like the atmosphere of the places and doing a location scouting before. I’m just thinking which model and outfit could fit in there

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

I have a basic idea but it depends on weather, light and location how the pictures will be

Studio, on location or both?

I started in studio but it after a it was too boring for me. So I started with location scouting and found a lot of nice places in my area. But I also get inspired by the location ideas from my models. So now I know a lot of places where I could take my pictures

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

Mainly a hobbyist. But I’m also doing paid jobs

What has been your most memorable session and why?

During an USA trip I had the chance to do photoshootings in New York. That is such a great place with lot’s of nice people and models. I was impressed by the friendliness and support during my work. I never will forget, how the guard of a museum stopped the tourist around so that we took our pictures..

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Canon, 35mm and 85 mm

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

It’s important to follow your own ideas and inspiration and not to be influences what others say or tell you how it has to be. It needs some good education and a lot of practice to find the right way. So don’t give up!
