Interview: Photographer Dominika Kutylowska (Norway)
Can you tell us a little about you?
Mom, wife, graphic designer, photographer, ex-dancer and a selfie queen of course. My name is Dominika but people call me Shaka. Art is definitely a part of my life.
How and when did you get into photography?
Photography is a part of my education. My dream was to be a graphic designer so I didn’t really care about photography at the university. My husband bought me a camera when my daughter was born. Slowly I started to learn. Hanna is 3 years old now and since 2 years I work as a photographer.
What does photography mean to you?
It’s my own way to show the world… people… colors… It’s all about catching the moment.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I am an outdoor and studio photographer. My favorite part of photography is urban shooting. But mostly I do maternity, family and art photos.
Where do you get inspiration from?
I watch a lot of photographers every day. Sometimes even a small thing can inspire me. A dress… A flower… A movie… A feeling… It all depends on my actual mood.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture ?
Yes. But it doesn’t mean it always goes this way!
Studio, on location or both?
Both… But if I need to chose only one- it would be location (forest).
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I guess I am a paid hobbyist hahaha
What has been your most memorable session and why?
I have never thought about it… Life goes on and I prefer to think about my future ideas.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
I am a Canon person! My favorite lens is Sigma Art 135mm f1.8
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business? Be yourself… Don’t try to be as good as your favorite photographer… Maybe you
will be much better one day :) Do whatever you like… Not what THEY expect you to do!
