Interview: Photographer John F. Cooper (USA)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I am a professional photographer based in New York City.
How and when did you get into photography?
I was a sports photographer in high school and went the the Rochester Institute of Technology receiving a BFA in Photography as a Fine Art.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography is my passion. I love creating unique images.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I use light as a way to create mood and drama in my images.
Where do you get inspiration from?
Being observant and curious.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
Absolutely. I plan in great detail in advance but allow for the creative process to flourish once the shoot commences.
Studio, on location or both?
Both.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Paid professional.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
I had the opportunity to shoot with the incredible Polaroid 20x24 Camera at Lincoln Center for my Organic Portrait book project.

Nikon.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
Photograph what you are passionate about.
