Interview: Photographer Marco Dex (Italy)

Can you tell us a little about you? I’m Marco De Santis ( in art Marco Dex), I’m 35 and I’m a computer engineer. I’m a creative person, I like art and technology. How and when did you get into photography? Since I was young, during my travels, my trips with my family, I always used a camera. When I was young used an old Kodak camera. They gave me a first digital camera 20 years ago. I started to use my father’s reflex in 2011. I can say I use a professional camera from 2011, because I wanted to improve my photographic experience. In 2014 I attended a photographic course with a master in fashion, street and glamour photography. What does photography mean to you? Photography is evasion for me, it’s creativity, it’s the realization of an idea. It is also color, light, emotion, sensuality. Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers. I started shooting landscapes. Then I decided to associate the portrait with a place. Now I love creating portraits, through which I try to capture the essence of the subject and the emotion of their eyes. In my photos Where do you get inspiration from? My inspirations are Steve McCurry and Henry Cartier-Bresson. I love their style and their photos. I get inspiration in my photos on instagram, facebook and pinterest. I get something to inspirate me about all the photos. Think you in advance what you want in the picture? Always. When I decided to make portrait to a model/subject I choose the mood, the outfit and the make up. But every time, I like something improvised. In these occasions very beautiful shots are born. Studio, on location or both? I love outdoor locations, street, city, woods, natural locations. But sometimes I like use indoor locations, to make some emotional photos. Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional? I want consider myself in the middle of hobbyist and a paid professional. The cause is that photographer is not my main job, but I make professionals works, cerimonies, calendars, and works for magazines and customers. Since 2017 I organize workshop about portrait photography. What has been your most memorable session and why? I remember with pleasure many photo shoots. A session in the mountains with very cold, or a photo session at the beach, on a sandy beach with a fantastic light and warm. Each photo session leaves me a beautiful memory. Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens? My favourite camera is a Nikon. Now I use Nikon D750, and I use fixed lens, 35mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4 and 85 mm 1.8. They are perfect for portraits. I have also a Xt-20 Fuji, because it’s lightweight and small. What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business? My advice is remain modest always. I recommend reading and learning, watching many photos and experimenting as much as possible. What do you think of our new magazine? Your magazine is very interesting because I can see photos of artists of all the world! Wonderful photos very inspirating. https://www.facebook.com/mdesantisphotography/ http://www.marcodesantisphoto.it https://www.instagram.com/djdex83
