Interview: Photographer Giovanni Aristodemo (Italy)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I am an Italian photographer, based in Catania, on the east coast of the island of Sicily.

I began my artistic journey as an abstract painter, but I soon developed a preference for street, still life, glamour portrait and nude art photography. At present I work as a freelance photographer, and my work has been recently recognised by receiving some photography awards on the net and one of my portraits was selected for a well-known exhibition in Paris.

How and when did you get into photography?

I approached to photography quite by chance, when I bought my first Nikon on the occasion of a trip, but in a very short time I fell in love with this amazing medium of expression.

What does photography mean to you?

Photography helps me to express my personal point of view on things and the world, and it gives me the opportunity to create an emotional and temporal database of my experience.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

My photography style is very intimist, I try to make personal every place I visit and each moment I live in order to filter it by means of the photography language.

Where do you get inspiration from?

Actually, there is not a specific subject inspiring me. I photograph everything that gives me emotions and that I want to remember.

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

Yes, I often have already in my mind what I want to realize, it’s an automatic process, as soon as I look at reality, I instantly imagine it as I would like it to be. That’s why a carefully plan and organize my projects.

Studio, on location or both?

I shoot on location, in studio and in a light box for still life photography.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

I was a session of fantasy portraits in which I realized some shoots a bit outside the box, almost surreal.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I am a pro photographer

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

I use a Nikon d750 with 50mm lens for portraits, 105mm for still life, and 30-70mm for street photography.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

I advise to study, study and study… To do research, to experiment, to photograph by using all means available, trying to build your own style.

What do you think of our new magazine?

I like new Modellenland Magazine very much, because in addition to containing very beautiful pictures, it gives the chance to know the creators of the photography, their way of working and the artistic dynamic.
