Interview: Model Julia Dyga (Poland)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I am an actress by profession, but my professional path defines me as a freelancer and I work in many fields of culture and art such as: Theater - I work with several theaters in Krakow and thanks to a scholarship I produced my monodrama (for which I created stage design and music) Musical - I am a member of the Pussy Mantra band - sound performance ritual (I create electronic music and sing). Lyrical - I had my poems published in the “Lytavra almanac” in Ukraine and in the Krakow quarterly; I took part in the "Lisova Pisnia" International Poetry Festival. Photographic / modeling - I took part in the World Bodypainting Festival in Klagenfurt, Austria. I had publications in Mordant Magazine or Iconic Exclusive. One of my pictures is on the cover of the album of the music band Bleib Modern "All Is Fair in Love and War". My photo was also included in the portfolio of students of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow. I'm still learning something and hate standing still ;) I love meeting people and creating a new artistic reality with them.
If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?
If I could change something, hmm ... This is a difficult question ... I think I would like to have more courage and confidence. People often think that I don’t struggle with that but, in fact, I do, like everyone else.
How did you start modeling?
My first contact with modeling took place in Primary school. I posed for the Polish brand of children's clothing "Wójcik". It was great fun! Somewhere farther I have posters from that time. I remember it being very cheerful.
What do you think of the work as a model?
For me, this is a very creative work, of course there are photographers who have their refined concept of a photo and then you have to be very patient, stable (every millimeter is important), but I feel best with those in front of which I can go crazy. Dressing together, looking for a frame. Recently, in cooperation with one photographer we have accelerated so much that we have done 5 stylizations and each of them has a few really good photos.
What is your beauty regimen?
Hahaha it depends a lot on the style of photography. I apply good face cream every day. As for the make-up, I just try not to overdo it and I normally use only the foundation and slightly emphasise my eyelashes with a mascara. ;)
What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?
I am an actress so during sessions I often play different characters - many photographers like that. I guess, I’m not afraid to look a bit “ugly”. I have heard many times about my strong features: pronounced eyebrows, big eyes and lips or my diastema.
What are your plans for the future?
My plans are undefined. I still meet different kinds of people and if there is some chemistry between us and an idea for a cooperation, I just go for it!
What are some of your favourite experiences so far?
Favourites? hmmmm ... I don't know if I could say that. I believe that every experience teaches us something, and I am grateful for that.
Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?
Don't be afraid to try and don’t be discouraged if you don't succeed right away. As in every profession, you need a lot of trial and time. Nothing happens right away.
What do you think of the magazine?
I really like the freshness of the magazine, for example by it’s cooperation and publications of new and underground artists, working in this industry. It does not exclude anyone or anything. I’m very thankful for the opportunity of giving an interview and my photos being published!
