Interview: Model Julia Prestige (Ukraine)

Can you tell us a little about you?

My name is Julia Prestige. I live and work in Ukraine. I’ve been photographing for 5 years .

How and when did you get into photography?

I first started taking pictures in 2015. My famous photographer Dan Hecho presented me with a lens and I bought a film camera for him. I invited models to shoot for my projects. After half a year, I started working as a commercial photographer.

What does photography mean to you?

Photography is a very important part in my life. This is my source of inspiration, my resource, business and hobbies.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

The direction in which I work is fashion, but also really like to shoot portraits, of which I have a significant amount in my portfolio.

Where do you get inspiration from?

People inspire me. From communicating with them, I get a lot of energy, which charges me, makes me move on. I follow fashion and watch movies, which gives me new ideas.

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

Yes, I think through the details in advance, the images to the smallest detail. I make references and I see a picture in advance.

Studio, on location or both?

Studio and location.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

This is a rare and desirable combination of hobby and business.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

Most memorable was the photography of the Moroccan-style editorial in vintage costumes, published in an American glossy magazine.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Canon and my favorite lens 50 mm

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

At first, I advise you not to think about technology and lenses, but to pay attention to the content of the picture. Know the work of the Great Classical Photographers (Richard Avedon, Helmut Newton, Irvin Penn), follow the modern world of photography. Read books about composition and frame building and most importantly, practice a lot.

What do you think of our new magazine?

Interesting and stylish content that inspires.
