Interview: Model Monika Elert (Poland)

Can you tell us a little about you?

My name is Monika. I was born in Poland, where I graduated from university and got my MA degree in teaching. I have always been a creative and active person. My passions include psychology, horse riding, Capoeira, reading , travelling and modelling/photography. After university, I took a break and travelled in Europe. I tried living and working with locals to get the feel of what life there is like. I laugh I've left my heart in Croatia, so this place is on my to do list to revisit. Now, I have settled down in the UK. I am a mom and I work as an admin. Modelling and photography are my passion and I want to keep them as hobby. Whenever I have a moment, I create props, headpieces, outfits and plan new photoshoots. I am always busy trying to make every moment count and creating memories.

If you could change anything about yourself, what would it be?

I'd love to be able to calm down my overthinking mind.

How did you start modeling?

I've never thought I will model at all, so when I won a make over boudoir photoshoot it was a surprise. I gave it a go and it went fantastic. I enjoyed it so much, I started modelling and now I'm loving every minute of it!

What do you think of the work as a model?

It is my escape from reality and it feeds my creative mind. I love meeting amazing people, building the set, having fun during photoshoots and then seeing results of our team effort. Modelling has opened so many doors, boosted my confidence and gave me great friends. Let's not forget those beautiful photos with so many good memories behind them.

What is your beauty regimen?

Healthy diet and self care. I am a vegetarian who likes cooking homemade food. Make up free days whenever possible, face masks, nourishing cream during the night, body scrub to refresh my skin and being outdoors are a must for me. I should probably sleep more, but I admit spending long hours making headpieces or outfits as days are not always long enough for me.

What are your personal qualities which distinguish you from others?

Happiness and empathy. I easily connect with people, which really helps and good rapport shows in photos. I love my life and am usually enthusiastic and positive and people around me share the vibe.

What are your plans for the future?

This year, I am focussing on modelling and having a great time. I am working on creative projects ( including catwalk), improving my modelling skills, learning more about photography and creating more props. Whenever possible, I make a conscious effort to spend quality time with family and friends.

What are some of your favorite experiences so far?

Our recent photoshoot at a very old theatre was an unforgettable experience. I also loved those on locations- ruins of a castle, rock formations or old mansion.

Just being part of a great team and working on projects is always a fantastic feeling. Studio workshops are very informative because I learn a lot about lighting while modelling and this improves my posing skills.

Every photoshoot is different and to me, I don't only do fashion. I co-create sets and costumes and this really is something I always look forward to- planning, creating, brainstorming for ideas, then having a photoshoot with a team of passionate people and making it real. Modelling is a bit like acting to me. It gives me opportunity to discover different versions of myself, to get into a role; become a strong warrior woman, hurt ghost, lady from the past or a modern beauty. It changes the way I see myself, too.

Do you have any advice for those who want to start modeling?

Take a chaperone to your photoshoots in the beginning. Set your boundaries, define your levels, find your style and ...enjoy!

What do you think of the magazine?

I love how it shows the real people behind photos and gives individuals in this industry a voice. I also find it inspiring to see work of creative teams from around the world, different point of views and walks of life.

Thank you so much Modellenland for letting me be a part of it!
