Interview: Photgrapher Alex Scaravelli (Italy)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I live in a small city near the river Po in Italy, I’ve always had a connection with photography but only 5 years ago I started taking serious pictures.
How and when did you get into photography?
I started about 5 years ago with landscapes and street photography, 3 years ago I started with portraits.
What does photography mean to you?
Photography, is to show how I see things, how I see people, how I see the world.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I’m into painterly portraits mainly made with Rembrandt light.
Where do you get inspiration from?
I get most of my inspiration from renaissance art and from other photographers that I usually follow but I’m always in search for new inspiration.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
Usually yes, but during the session I often change my ideas.
Studio, on location or both?
Studio is my preferred one, I love to have maximum control on the light.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I’m not a paid professional, I photograph what I like, who I like, based on my interests.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
Probably the first after 2 month of lockdown in Italy due to Covid19, I was a little nervous after so much time without taking photos.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Since my beginning I used Sony mirrorless, but recently I switched to Lumix S1 and I love it. My favourite lenses are 50mm and 85mm.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
Seek for your own style, photograph what you like, don’t follow trends or likes on social networks, and put always yourself in your pictures.
What do you think of our new magazine?
I really love it, it’s always a way to get new inspirations and discover new photographers and models.
