Interview: Photographer Alfredo Spagna (Italy)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I’m an old lone wolf who loves the simple pleasures of life. Art is one of them. I live in Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet and this is already insipiring.
How and when did you get into photography?
While I was at high school, one of my classmates was the son of the CEO of a company that imported cameras of a famous brand to Italy. It was love at first sight with cameras and the darkroom.
What does photography mean to you?
My aim is to reach the hearts of those who look at my works. I never explain the meaning behind my photos, those are frames of a film. You can add all that comes before and what will follow.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I'm a portraitist, people in my photos are characters exploring the dark side of life.
Where do you get inspiration from?
Everything is a source of inspiration, a framework, a character, a tale... as long as it generates emotions.
Studio, on location or both?
Location, we work almost exclusively with natural light. We try to set our portraits to make them more emotional.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
I have been taking my pictures with a friend for several years, her name is Lara Zanardi, we create everything together. We always have some starting ideas but often, during our sets, we get carried away by the inspiration.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I consider myself as a Hobbyist.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
The last session is always the most exciting on.e
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Now I am used to using Canon but I've tried Nikon too. The tool you use is a minor matter. My all-time favourite lenses are 35mm but I use also often 85mm and sometimes 70-200.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business? To look for the opportunity to have some experiences with a great professional photographer.
What do you think of our new magazine?
I immediately noticed the very high level of publications. it’s an honor for me to be a part of this project.
