Interview: Photographer Maurizio Caschera (Italy)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I am a photographer, I speak through images.
How and when did you get into photography?
Many years ago I attended to a photography course just to choose an hobby. The I attended to a second one, a third one… My photography teacher asked to me to support as assistant in the lessons… a this new hobby become a passion for the life.
What does photography mean to you?
It is a way to know the world, to know people. When you do a portrait you have the privilege to look art at the subject without filter, just as the person is. The photography reveal the nature of the people and this is a unique privilege.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
My style is quite simple, 1 or 2 lights just to show the concept. I am a portrait photographer. My photo has the aspiration of showing a person as the person wishes to be, not as he is.
Where do you get inspiration from?
I can take inspiration from the subject itself (I usually ask to myself the following question: how do you image the subject, which is his color). If I am not shooting at a portrait, in the shooting I wish to create again sensation I felt in my life.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
A good plan is the main requirement for achieving the objective.
Studio, on location or both?
Both I would say. Studio is easy and comfortable, location is challenging but potentially it can give the best results.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Good question. I am a paid photographer, but not when I work to personal projects.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
One of my memorable shooting is the one published. I was in Cuba and I had the possibility to choose everything for the shooting: model, location, stylist and outfits (one designed only for me). I had also a car with a driver, backstage video, make up, hair dress. It was fantastic.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Nikon only because I started with it. My be lens is 105 mm defocus. It is a fixed lens and this force you to think about the composition and to use your legs as a zoom.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
You should always follow a plan. You can modify it during the time but never stop to follow a plan with objectives. And you should have an infinite passion for lights and photography.
What do you think of our new magazine?
It is a magazine about about photography, I can see your passion on it. Please never stop, you need to hear about photography as an art.
