Interview: Photographer Pedro Manteca Fotografía (Spain)

Can you tell us a little about you?

Firstly, I am Pedro Manteca and I am a 49-year-old man. Actually, my daily work, that feeds me, is logistics work. I am a calm person, who enjoys peace, who escapes from crowds, who likes things well done, and who thinks that if you want to do something surely with effort you will achieve it.

How and when did you get into photography?

I started in world of photography in October 2017. Due to a disease in my back, I had to stop doing some of my hobbies and in addition to this, urgently occupy my time with another hobby as a result the loss of a loved one. My wife pushed me to learn photography by accompanying me to courses, exhibitions, modeling, etc. Without knowing anything about this world, I began to enjoy it and one thing after another has made me go on it.

What does photography mean to you?

It is a way of expressing my feelings, as I would like the world that we see a newspaper to be. It gives me a lot of satisfaction, although sometimes I demand too much of myself in the results.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I take all kinds of photographs. Throughout this time I have been mixing with each other, but the style that I most identify with is the fine arts or fantasy.

Where do you get inspiration from?

I usually see a lot of photography, also a lot of paint jobs, moreover the movie images to help you find inspiration.

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

Usually I think before about the colors and the light that I need. Also, I like to visit the surroundings to see what time we have the light we need. I also analyze some posture, but I usually leave part of the session to chance.

Studio, on location or both?

Always outdoors and with natural light, I never use artificial light.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

Actually, I think I will always be an amateur, although it is true that I do paid jobs. It is not my profession and I want to continue doing it as a hobby and not as an obligation.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

In each of them I have good times and fortunately the results are normally acceptable. There is no favorite session, all of them have been positive and I have a nice friendship with the people who worked on it.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

I have a Nikon camera but there is really no reason for preference. It would work equally with a Canon camera and I don't think it would be any different than the Nikon camera. My favorite lens is an 85mm 1.4

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

I would tell fellow photographers to find your way. It is important that they look at the work of their colleagues but that they always differentiate their work, that they be patient, that their work must be delicate and that they are not comfortable working only in a studio, because nature will give them a light and a lovely color.
