Interview: Photographer Vero Herrero (Switzerland)

Can you tell us a little about you?

I am Vero, I was born in Spain in 1986, when I was 23 years old I came to live in Switzerland where I have been married for almost 9 years with the love of my life, whom I met when I was only 19 years old, together we have built a beautiful family Swiss-Spanish with two girls and a small puppy. I am quite a busy woman, I try to take care of my work, girls and home. In my free time I really like to ride my bike and breathe fresh air in the beautiful forests and mountains of Switzerland, they help me a lot to disconnect from daily stress. I am very demanding with myself and very spontaneous, I always say what comes to mind. I really enjoy free time with my family, we like hiking and mountain biking routes.

How and when did you get into photography?

I think it was after having my first daughter, surely it has some other family or genetic influence, since my uncle and grandfather were photographers. Photography has always attracted me, but since I started until now that I have dedicated myself to it, it has been a long and slow process of which I am very proud.

What does photography mean to you?

Photography for me is a way of life, I would know how to better explain what makes me feel ... I love making people happy with my photographs, getting to capture the way in which each of us observes life, it has to do with the personal point of view that we all put to the things we do, see and feel. Surely it does not look like anyone else's, it is something similar to DNA, which marks you and makes you unique from others. For me it is very important that each of my clients feel like princesses or goddesses in a fairy tale for a day, regardless of their age or physical appearance, because all women should be able to feel that sometime in their life.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I have a lot of creativity and ambition to improve myself. I feel very comfortable shooting mainly outdoors. I like to recreate a mystical fairy tale atmosphere, to make women appear powerful, magical and at the same time fragile and delicate. I really like Fine Art photography although my style is not exactly that.

Where do you get inspiration from?

My inspiration comes from a great Russian photographer Amina Donskaya.

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

Sometimes yes, I think about the wardrobe, the location, the hairstyle, the colors I will use, on other occasions the magic just happens, without thinking or anything, it just happens.

Studio, on location or both?

I enjoy photography much more in nature, lakes, forests, roads, castles, the exterior has much more to offer us than a studio. On many occasions I work in the studio, either because of the weather or because the model feels more comfortable within four walls, I adapt to everything, but my favorite is always outdoor photography.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I am a professional photographer, it started as a hobby, but today it is a profession.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

For me the most memorable photo sessions are always those of my daughters, I watch them grow, they are so expressive and fun, I enjoy each one in a very special way. I love seeing them grow and in the photo sessions with them, I am even more aware of how quickly time goes by.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

I am a fan of Canon, I have never tried anything else and at the moment I have no intention of changing. My favorite lens is the 135mm 1.8 from Sigma

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

That he tries to be himself, that he looks inside to know what he wants to offer with his photographs, what he wants to convey. He must try to find his own style. I myself believe that I am still in the process, many photographers and artists go through various streaks or periods in life that make the style change a bit, etc. I call that evolution and supercation.

Whatdo you think of our new magazine?

The magazine is fresh, with high quality content, I love the selection of photographers and models they present and I really like being able to learn a little more about the work of other artists. It seems to me a great idea that there is a magazine in which great talents of photography and modeling are given the opportunity to present themselves and show their work.
