Interview: Photographer Kumar Sudheir (Poland)

Can you tell us a little about you?

My name is Sudhir Kumar. I am Indian. I use name "Kumar Fotographer" in the world of photography. My family is not rich. My father is a military guy. My school was not a private. When I was a teenager I was dreaming to be an actor or a model in Bollywood. Sure nobody support me. I just wanted to be famous. I learned modeling and understood that I enjoy on backstage, not in front of the camera. Once I met a guy with a camera and my life had been changed for "before and after".

How and when did you get into photography?

As I told I met a guy. He was our town photograther. His image with a camera was impressed me. There was only one idea in my mind "I want to be like he". I went to him and begged to give me opportunity to learn this magic of pictures. And he agreed to become my teacher. I assisted him and learned. I worked in his studio like a cleaner and manage studio staff. After 1 year I got my own first camera Canon. And start photography.

I started my photo shoots with people and I must have done at least 50 sessions for free. I just wanted to have my experience. Soon I moved from my small city to Mumbai and there I spent 10 years in the Bollywood film industry as a Photographer.

My child dream comes true, I was worked with celebrities, for newspapers and fashion magazines.

What does photography mean to you?

Photography for me is everything. The camera is the part of my eyes and body. Really, I cant even imaging myself without photograthy. So deep it now inside me.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

I was growing in India and living in Europe now. Im my works I mix West and East cultures. Use transparent fabrics, colours, structures, materials with nudity. Open the soul and emotions is my main goal. To show inner world of humanity, not only body like a piece of meat.

Where do you get inspiration from?

I get my inspiration from everywhere. I just try to stay a small boy and be impressed of this World. Curiosity and desire inspire me. I just have to fix everything in time.

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

Sure, I plan the result. The technical components and equipment of my shooting depends of idea. The type of appearance of the model, accessories, detils, place. But sometimes the magic happened and I recording by my camera something new.

Studio, on location or both?

I accept all locations. All depends what I want as a result. Sometime I only need background on the wall. And sometimes the location brings additional meaning and atmosphere to the photo.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I am a professional photographer. I am just lucky that my hobby pays.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

Every last shoot is memorable for me. I am always very excited, especially if i like result too much. But I have some photos of my Granny. That shoot is very personal and intimate for me, therefore it is memorable.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

Be open don't stop and always try to make new experiences.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

Frankly speaking, I would be a deeply unhappy person if I had to choose only one camera. I like all cameras and want to experiment. Every one has her own energy and feature. I have used almost all types of cameras, non-digital too. What about lens, my favorite is 50mm and 70-200

What do you think of our new magazine?

You doing a good job, because you are giving space to new names. Every begginer can get support for their works. It is very important to know that somebody believe in you even if you are a genious. It gets inspiration and inner power. I wish you to catch interesting authors and captivate readers.
