Interview: Photographer Marcin Ferenc (Poland)

Can you tell us a little about you?

Hi. Thank you very much for inviting me to do an interview.

My name is Marcin, I live in a small town in the south of Poland in Nowy Sącz. I am 38 years old. I am interested in music, I play the guitar and photography. I love animals.

How and when did you get into photography?

My adventure with photography began about 5 years ago. Initially, I tried my hand at landscapes. Due to limited time, as we know, landscape photography requires a lot of mobility and availability, so not wanting to put my hobby before family life, I became interested in portrait photography.

What does photography mean to you?

For me, photography is a hobby, an escape from everyday life, a way to spend free time and meet interesting people.

Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.

Interesting question. I deal mainly with portrait and women's photography. I try to show women as I see them. Sometimes classic, sometimes provocative or sensual. I like warm tones, but I think I'm still searching and I'm not limiting myself.

Where do you get inspiration from?

Probably like most of us, I draw inspiration from the Internet. Be it photos, video clips, music. I take photos mostly spontaneously. I try to take advantage of the time and conditions when shooting. The models themselves are a great inspiration to me. I believe that everyone has something in themselves that is worth seeing and keeping in the frame.

Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?

Yes. Sometimes I try to have an idea for a frame ready, but more often than not I get carried away by the moment.

Studio, on location or both?

Definitely outdoors, natural light. I like to walk a bit during a session, get to know the other person and relieve stress. I also don't have much experience with artificial light. There is always something to work on.

Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?

I'm a total hobbyist.

What has been your most memorable session and why?

I don't think there was one such session. Each of them is unique and memorable in its own way. Each of us is different and the most valuable thing is that we have the opportunity to meet different personalities. I really like a session in a waterfall or a charming apartment in Katowice at Rymera 7.

Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?

I shoot with Canon. Currently it is the 5 D MK IV model.

I have two favorite lenses. These are Canon 85mm f/1.2L and Canon 135mm f/2.0L.

What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?

As a hobbyist, I won't help you run your business. Get as much fun as possible from your work.

What do you think of our new magazine?

I really like the form. An inspiring magazine that I enjoy watching. Useful information and lots of beautiful photos. I recommend to everyone!
