Interview: Photographer Davide Nicoletti (Italy)
Can you tell us a little about you?
I have an eclectic personality, I love art in all its forms and constantly seek contamination to express myself.
I began my working career as a Graphic Designer, but I soon realized that it was not enough to express my personality, so I studied illustration and then modern singing.
Over the years as Art Director, my communication and interests have moved to architectural photography to finally land on portraiture and fashion.
Currently I deal with discovering talents, with the total image of models, from make-up to styling and finishing with the shots.
How and when did you get into photography?
I have always photographed, since I was very young, I have always been interested in photographing people and capturing their style and emotions. As a professional I started more than ten years ago, first with architecture and interiors and then I started with portraits, the human element has always attracted me a lot.
What does photography mean to you?
Stopping time, beauty, memories, art, perfection, capturing emotions. I think it's the new way of painting with "light".
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
My style is contaminated by the great photographers of the 80s and 90s, a contemporary interpretation, often melancholy, elegant, geometric and sometimes intimate.
Where do you get inspiration from?
I find inspiration above all from art, painting and the masters of the past, the rest is done by my imagination.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
I always like to know in advance who I'm going to photograph and create a personalized image. I usually prepare a mood board where you already have an idea of what I want to achieve with the shots.
Studio, on location or both?
Both, but only if the location is particular and respects my taste and vision.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
I consider myself a professional.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
When for an editorial, I transformed a model into three different 80s Pop Star versions, namely David Bowie, Annie Lennox and Madonna. It was fun and exciting to relive those years and see the transformations and different interpretations.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
Canon for life.
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
To have a lot of passion, cultivate image culture and have a lot of perseverance.
Never imitate anyone!
What do you think of our new magazine?
I find it a modern idea and also a good opportunity to make yourself known and propose your art.
