Interview: Photographer Lucia Mondini (Italy)
Can you tell us a little about you?
My name is Lucia Mondini, I’m a full time professional photographer. I live in Alessandria, in the north-west of Italy.
How and when did you get into photography?
I have always been fascinated by photography, I inherited my passion from my father. I started to get involved with photography in 2010. I specialize in several fields of photography, mainly in portrait, fashion, model tests and editorials. I run photography workshops.
What does photography mean to you?
I try to convey emotions I feel at the time of shooting by putting together subject and location. I express myself through photos, and I also love making connections with people. I can’t even imagine myself without photography.
Please briefly describe your photography style for our readers.
I am a portraitist photographer. In my photos I try to capture the most intimate and sweet side of the subjects portrayed. I study my sets in such a way as to create a dreamy atmosphere in which subject, outfit and location are in a perfect match.
Where do you get inspiration from?
Everywhere! It could be a location, a movie, an object, a book, a paint or just someone’s character. I am also often inspired by photographic artists around the world.
Do you think in advance what you want in the picture?
I mostly have an idea about the style or atmosphere. I brainstorm with the model and then I choose location, outfit and make-up. I always have a plan in advance, but along the way things can change. Even with a plan, I don't always know how it will turn out until I am in the middle of the photoshoot.
Studio, on location or both?
Most of my works are characterized by natural light and set in the middle of nature.
Would you consider yourself a hobbyist or a paid professional?
Photography is my greatest life passion but of course I’m a paid professional and I earn my living from photography so I think I am both. To be able to do this professionally is such a blessing, so I do it with all the love and care I have.
What has been your most memorable session and why?
It is difficult to highlight a special shoot, there are many that have been special for something.
Nikon or Canon? Favorite lens?
I work with Canon and Fujifilm, my favorite lens is 35mm f1.4
What is one piece of advice you would like to offer a new photographer looking to start their own business?
Stay humble, try everything to enforce your creativity and just be yourself.
What do you think of our new magazine?
I think it’s great to have a magazine that includes so many things. I love it.
